Discovering Heart, Mind, and Body
(The key to understanding self and others)
For many years, we at Norwell Consulting Group have struggled to help clients
and others understand a variety of complex personality tests. One of the basic
problems is that most who take these tests don’t want to spend the time
necessary to really understand the results. A second problem is that the
results are often too complicated to follow. A third problem comes from the
fact that the results of complicated personal tests are frequently expressed is
terms that do not self define. As a consequence of these problems, the
usefulness of such tests are self limiting.
What has become apparent to us is the need for an accurate, but simple
means of helping people better understand some of their basic personality
tendencies. We knew that such a tool should also allow them to understand
the differences between them and others. From this need has grown the
development of the Heart, Mind, and Body (HMB) Profile.
Simply stated, this profile separates behavioral response into three well-
understood categories. The use of the term Heart suggests emotion, feeling,
empathy, imagination, and so forth. The use of the term Mind suggests logic,
thinking, compelling argument, etc. The use of the term Body suggests action,
doing, the five senses, experience, etc. Norwell’s HMB Profile is based upon
these well-known and self defining categories. Further, many of Norwell’s
training programs, as well as its landmark Immersion Learning principles are
filled with the use of the HMB concepts, creating a cohesive, consistent
presentation that is easy to understand and remember.
